As Hugo approached the strange stone construct, the runes on the outer circle suddenly began to flicker and the air was filled with a low hum, as if of a thousand distant voices. On the one hand Hugo wanted to flee, on the other something drew him closer to the stonier circle.
Cautiously, he reached out a hand and felt it being drawn to the now brightly billowing surface within the circle. He looked behind the stone circle, but there was only blank stone.
"Are you afraid?", Thaja winked at him and without another word stepped into the billowing surface and was gone!
"A magical portal!" Hugo had an epiphany and followed the young mage....
