The main novelty that the Expedition Leaders expansion incorporates into the base game is the addition of 6 unique leaders with special abilities. This breaks the symmetry of the games, since each player will have certain specific advantages from the beginning to the end of the session. Each leader comes with their own board and starter cards that replace the boards and cards in the base game. The leaders available to the players are: the captain, the falconer, the baroness, the professor, and the mystic, who knows how to take advantage of the fear cards.
